Agonal breathing: teaching learners to recognise it and act
About this session
The Resuscitation Council UK's August statement changes the language we use to describe abnormal breathing in a collapsed casualty. For trainers, that means updating slides, scenario scripts and assessment criteria – and knowing how to answer the learner who asks "but what does it actually sound like?"
Dr Sarah Okafor walks through the statement line by line, plays real (consented) case audio, and shows how three training providers have already rewritten their CPR session plans.
You’ll leave able to
- Describe agonal breathing in the RCUK's current language, and explain why the wording changed
- Run a recognition exercise using case audio in your own courses
- Update assessment criteria so learners aren't marked down for starting CPR on a gasping casualty
